Rosa damascena Italica from Les Roses (1817–1824)
The Italian Damask Rose, also known as the Four Seasons of Italy (Rosa damascena Italica), is a variety of the Damask Rose species. It is known for its large, double blooms that have a strong, sweet fragrance. The blooms are typically pink or white and are often used in perfumes and potpourri. It is an old garden rose, featured in the book "Les Roses" (1817-1824) by Pierre-Joseph Redouté. The variety is originally from Damascus, Syria and was introduced in Italy in medieval time, it was particularly prized for its ability to bloom in all four seasons of the year, hence the name "Four Seasons of Italy". It is often grown for its ornamental value and fragrant flowers.
