It is an old garden rose, featured in the book "Les Roses" (1817-1824) by Pierre-Joseph Redouté. The variety is originally from Damascus, Syria and was introduced in Italy in medieval time, it was particularly prized for its ability to bloom in all four seasons of the year, hence the name "Four Seasons of Italy". It is often grown for its ornamental value and fragrant flowers.
